Boxes or Hangers ?

I haven't had much time to post anything here lately...The reason is that I started to work in my family's laundry business. My first day was Monday. I have been working 12 hours per day in this non-air-conditioned shop on these blistering, 90 degree, very humid days. The eight large clothes dryers only add to the high heat in our shop. Drinking 5 bottles of water a day helps...Some.

I promise I will post something more exciting when I have a day off or when I get my life back. Whichever comes first. ;)

Send Off for Timothy

My Cousin Timothy Tong will be leaving on Tuesday to go to US ARMY basic training at Fort Benning in Georgia. As a little send off for him, Rich and I had him over to our place in Hastings. Rich took Timothy to Yankee Stadium on Thursday night to see the Yanks play the D'Rays. (The Yanks lost 6-4).

On Friday, we took a 12 mile canoe trip on the Deleware river. We rented canoes from Kittatinny Canoes, in Dingman's Ferry, PA. It was a hot sunny day and the river was a little slow. But we had fun paddling along and taking in the sun.

Friday night, we ate a nice dinner at Blu. We sat on the outside porch which faces the Hudson River. Timothy had steak, Rich ate a pork chop and I had linguine with shrimp. I was happy to see Timothy eating a good meal as God knows what they will feed him in basic training. As we finished our meal, we watched the sun set over the Palisades Cliffs.

Anyways, it was a nice send off for him. We wish him the best of luck and much success at basic training and beyond !

Garden Report

Three weeks ago, Rich and I planted a vegetable garden on our back deck. In our garden, we planted:
6 tomatoe plants, (so we can makeMarinara).
hot peppers, (so we can make Relish).
an eggplant, (so we can make Eggplant Parmesan).
cucumber, (so we can make some PICKLES!).
basil, (to make some Pesto).
mint, (so we can cool off with some Mint Julips).

All our plants seem to be doing pretty well except for our pepper plant. The wind gets so strong out on the porch that it blows the flowers off the pepper plant. I hope that it gets strong enough to be able to take the wind.

Anyways, here are some tips if you want to turn your porch into a vegetable garden.

Tomatoes

Peppers

Eggplant

Cucumber

Basil...

Fresh Mint !

I Love Pickles !

What else can I say? I love pickles...My favorites are the half sour pickles. I also love: New Pickles, Dills, Gherkins, Bread & Butter, Sweets, Garlic Pickles, Hot Sours...I LOVE PICKLES !!!!!

If you love pickles you need to check out The Pickle Guys. It's also fun to make your own pickles !

Behind curry noodle soup, pickles are my favorite food !

I know those pickles are hiding in there somewhere...

Getting Grilled

On Saturday, Rich and I decided to stay by the pool in B'ville. It was a hot sticky day...Perfect for grilling. We decided to do Shish Kabobs. The Kabobs turned out great and we washed them down with some cold Rolling Rocks.

We watched a movie, Rich played some piano and we were hungry again. For some reason we decided on grilling some hot dogs and we washed them down with a really nice Cab... Huh? Anyways it was fun...

Sunday...We went to the Gowanus Yacht Club to meet Charlie and Michele. We gave them a set of note cards Rich made with photos of them in Bagna Di Lucca . It is their 3rd anniversary. Happy Anniversary M&C !

We ended the day with dinner at my parent's house in Elmhurst. A small Malaysian feast prepared by my Aunt and my Mom...Still enjoying the leftovers... ;)

Random Saturday stroll in NYC

After a night of fun out clubbing with Rich and Antonio, Rich and I woke up at around 12 noon on Saturday. The Philippine Day parade was happening right under our window ! We drank our coffee and tea while we watched the parade. We then decided to take this aimless stroll through the city...We hit the Murray Hill Street Fair, the Philippine Day Festival, Madison Square Park, Union Square Park, The Green Market in Union Square...Made an emergency run to Daffy's to buy a new shirt...Went to Chelsea Market and ended up drinking Rolling Rocks, eating oysters and watching the Yankee game at Live Bait...

Later that night...Rich tried to find the same club we went to the night before...But we ended up walking around, couldn't find it so we took a cab to Pravda and ended the night singing at Japas 38.

When we woke up, the Philippine day parade was going on under our window...

We decided to go for a walk and Rich wore his "Chuckies..."

We were really hungry so we went to Moonstruck Diner for breakfast.

We Considered "hangover burgers.."

After breakfast we went over to the Murray Hill Street fair on 38th St.

There was soo much food... :)

Lots of grilled hot dogs...

There was a really cool old Checker Cab...

I stopped to rest for a while on a stoop.

They were selling everything...from new bed linens...
