Trip to Piermont, eating more crabs and kayaking on the Hudson...

On Saturday, Rich and I decided to drive accross the river to Piermont to see about doing some kayaking. When we arrived, we stopped on the main street to look into the shops. There was this really cool Lamborghini sitting along the curb. Rich was speaking with its owner and his friend. The friend mentioned that tyhere was a crab fest (benefit for the local library), over by the pier. We figured we would check into that....

The crabfest was mostly all locals sitting at dozens of picnic tables all chowing on steamed crabs, corn on the cob, hot dogs, beer etc. We paid our $20 each (kind of pricey), and entertained ourselves for the next hour or so eating crabs and washing them down with some coors light. When we had our fill of crabs, we walked over to Paradise Boats where this really eccentric guy Bill was all to happy to rent us a tandem kayak for an hour and a half. ($30).

Rich and I paddled through the marshes right out into the middle of the Hudson river. We kayaked past the pier (of Piermont) more than halfway to the other side. The other side being Irvington, NY. After a while, we decided to turn around and go explore the marshes on the river under Tallman Mountain State Park. The marshes are so peaceful and quiet. No sound but the wind wispering through the tall marsh grass. Ducks, geese and fish jumping from the still, slow moving water. We took our paddles out of the water and just allowed ourselves to float not saying anything, just listening to the breeze and feeling the warm sun on our faces.

All too soon, it was time to go back. We spent some time with Bill discussing the purchase of a kayak. After that we walked back to the pier, where our car was. On our way, we noticed this sign nailed to a tree: "CRABFEST." Under that sign was another: "NO MORE CRABS...sorry..." ;)
